The Kenai Performers, a community theater organization in Kenai, Alaska, is seeking to hire a Development Director to facilitate a capital campaign.
General skills, attributes:
- Productivity: Must be able to work independently in a self-directed environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills are necessary.
- People skills: Must be personable, well-spoken and business-like in presentation. Strong written and verbal communications skills are necessary. Must have knowledge of community individuals and organizations capable of substantial donations.
Job duties, the Development Director will:
- Work collaboratively with KP Executive Director and Board of Directors, providing updates of activities, financial status and progress on Capital Campaign at each Board Meeting. Activities to include:
- Research and draft an annual Development Budget with itemized costs to present to the Board — office equipment and supplies (printing, mailing, etc.), travel, membership fees, etc. Maintain financial accounting of development activities to present to the Board.
- Research and draft an annual and five-year Development Calendar, noting deadlines for funding, networking and other development opportunities.
- Brainstorm/assist/facilitate fundraising events and activities.
- Update/expand a current membership database and establish a schedule and system for continuous updating; establish consistent contact with membership, including an annual report/meeting; brainstorm and facilitate fund-raising events and activities;
- Establish a legacy giving program.
- Network with business, governmental and nonprofit representatives to solicit support and establish collaborative relations.
- Research and apply for funding opportunities.
Position specifications
- Part-time, 20 hours a week
- Contract basis
- Work out of Kenai Performers facility in Kenai
- $2,000 per month
- Position envisioned to last duration of the Capital Campaign, but may be extended or terminated at the discretion of the Board.

Our home is your home With help from the USDA Rural Development program, in fall 2010 the Kenai Performers finalized purchase of our new home, the former Hall Quality Builders office at 1212 1st Ave. in Kenai.
Here’s what we have:
- 6,000 square feet
- Two stories
- 4,000 square feet of high-ceiling shop space to turn into a theater
- Finished office space at the front of the building, which houses Curtain Call Consignment Boutique
- Office space upstairs for costume/props storage Gravel parking lot behind the building.
Our plan:

- Renovate shop space to create 142-seat theater, with modular, collapsible seating platforms that can be configured to accommodate different performance needs — dance, concert, presentation, proscenium staging, theater in the round, etc.
- Install theatrical technical systems Refurbish heating and electrical systems
- Add bathrooms
- Extend west wall of the building to create a technical booth and storage area upstairs; and an entrance lobby, bathrooms and more space for Curtain Call downstairs.
- Create conference/classroom/workshop space upstairs, and add green room and makeup stations upstairs
- Create set shop area downstairs
- Obtain additional acreage to accommodate more parking
- Establish additional storage space
