Hi, Everybody! Sorry to send so many emails, but I've been told this is easier than having all the info in one email. Let me know what you prefer! THANKS!

Professional Actor/Model Headshots!

Alden Ford, one of the three-man team, SIDECAR, performing at the PLAYHOUSE in Mid August, is also a professional headshot photographer in New York! Last month a number of you came to audition for a feature film being shot in Homer by a New York company. As I called around to help with this, I found that Alaska is becoming more and more a destination for filmmakers, who are always on the lookout for local talent they won t have to fly up for the shooting. That got me thinking that it might be fun and even rewarding for some of you to have a portfolio of professional headshots to have on hand for these occasions. THEN I thought - GEE! just the experience might be interesting, and the pictures would be great to have for a lot of things! So!

If you would like Alden to take YOUR headshots, please email me or call 776-8308 for an appointment during the week of August 16 through August 22. He will take about 150 shots to show you at your best. These can be a combination of color and black and white, inside and outside shots, and with two or three different looks. The session will take about an hour. You will receive a CD with all the pictures printable quality to keep and use whenever or however you decide. The session costs $200 (about half what it costs in NY!)

Headshots are a particular kind of photograph. If you d like to see Alden s work, go to www.aldenford.com to see examples of his work and his philosophy. Let me know!

Hi, Everybody! AUDITIONS AUDITIONS AUDITIONS "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"

Play by Dale Wasserman

Novel by Ken Kesey

Directed by Ken Duff

Auditions will be held August 16th and August 17th at 2:00 PM at the Kenai Performers' Old Town Playhouse. You've seen the movie. Well the play is much better. There are great parts for men and women. There are roles for 7 men, 4 women, and 5 roles that are male roles but the director is willing to cast women in male roles. Shakespeare in reverse. There are no roles for children. We will need one large, intimidating male who can act meek and afraid for the role of Chief Bromden. The Chief's part in the play is significant, even more than in the movie.

The Kenai Performers will be performing "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" on October 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, 31 November 1 at the Old Town Theater. For information e-mail Ken Duff at pappap3@hotmail.com or call 252-0178

Hi, Everybody! WOW!!! Kenai Performers presents a FANTASTIC series of opportunities for each of us to learn, stretch and laugh till our sides hurt! SIDECAR, the three-man improv team from New York City, featuring our own hometown boy, Alden Ford, will be returning to Kenai again this summer to regail you with their special upbeat, laugh-outloud brand of New York Improvisational theatre! It's high energy, creative, slapstick, insightful goofball storytelling for the highly active mind of the thinking connoisseur! Not to mention hilarious!

They will be doing SHOWS just like they've performed for years in NY and in venues all around the US! They will also be offering WORKSHOPS in the art of improv for youth, beginning adults and experienced adults!

Here's the scoop: EVERY SHOW is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT with improv, so we hope you can attend EVERY SHOW! You won't want to miss one single brilliant explosion of fun!!There will be two shows each evening on Saturday, August 16, Thursday, August 21 and Friday, August 22. The first show of each evening will begin at 7:00, the second show at 8:30. Tickets for each show will be on sale at the door, and will be $6 each, but if you plan to stay for both shows on any given evening, just get both tickets when you arrive, and the price will be $10 for the whole evening! The first show of the evening will be "family friendly," and the second will be open to going wherever the performers take it, so it may sometimes be pg-13.

There are three workshop options:
- Kids from 10-15 are invited to attend an introductory workshop on Sunday, August 18 from 1-4. This workshop will introduce you to improv ideas, techniques, and theatre games. Watch the shows the evening before, and see where these principals and methods can take you in your performance, stage presence and personal confidence levels. Price for this three-hour workshop is $25.

- Adults 16 and up are invited to attend either beginning workshops Sunday through Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30, or the advanced classes from 8-10 Sunday through Wednesday. Hone those performance skills that will prepare you not only to improv, but also to build on your current capabilities and confidence onstage and off! If you have experience in improv - whether from last year's class or elswhere, you will enjoy the advanced class. If you'd like a refresher, or have never tried improv, start with the biginner's class, and adjust if necessary. Workshop classes are $20 each night, so the whole class will be $80 for each participant for the four nights. You will have Sidecar's FULL attention!

BONUS!!! We just had auditions for a feature film which will be shooting up here in Alaska. These are becoming more numerous as filmmakers are discovering Alaska as a wonderful place to make movies. IF YOU WOULD LIKE PROFESSIONAL HEADSHOTS taken just for fun, or to use in auditioning,(or for Christmas cards!) Alden Ford, a professional NY headshot photographer, will be available to do a shoot with you while he is here. You'll need to make an appointment, so email me, and I'll set you up. He does a series of about 150 shots in color and black and white, inside and/or outside, and makes you a cd with all the shots on it that you can keep and use for whatever you need. He's offering this service for about half what he's getting in NY these days: $200, and the shots are then yours to keep. Get an idea of the kind of work he does by checking out his website, www.aldenford.com

If you would like to sign up for a wokshop or a photo shoot, please respond to this email. The money for the shows and workshops is split between Kenai Performers and Sidecar. The money for the photography goes to Alden.

Keep your eyes peeled for more info about upcoming events and the season! Don't forget to audition!!

In the next few days, I will be sending out more info on that, AND the whole next year's KENAI PERFORMERS' SEASON of SHOWS!! Tonight's email, though, is AUDITION NOTICE!!

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"

Play by Dale Wasserman

Novel by Ken Kesey

Directed by Ken Duff

Auditions will be held August 16th and August 17th at 2:00 PM at the Kenai Performers' Old Town Theater. You've seen the movie. Well the play is much better. There are great parts for men and women. There are roles for 7 men, 4 women, and 5 roles that are male roles but the director is willing to cast women in male roles. Shakespeare in reverse. There are no roles for children. The Kenai Performers will be performing "One Fleww Over the Cuckoo's Nest" on October 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, 31 November 1 at the Old Town Theater. For information e-mail Ken Duff at pappap3@hotmail.com or call 252-0178

Hi, Everybody! Tomorrow (Wed, July 23) I will be performing "A Patchwork of Quotes" at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center at Noon. This is a program that came out of the statewide storytelling project, Communities of Memory, that we did in conjunction with the Alaska Humanities Forum back in the 90s.Many of you were involved or will remember that fun project!! We collected hundreds of stories of this area over a three-year period, and later the Alaska Humanities Forum asked me to put together a program to share some of our stories with others around the state. I performed this program all over the state for several years, and now am asked to perform it every now and then when people remember I do it. It is interesting, I think, for those who live here and may know many of the stories and women I quote, as well as for those who are interested in stories, in Alaska, in history, or in any number of other topics it touches on. So if you have an hour or so at Noon tomorrow, stop by the Visitors and Cultural Center and enjoy! Admission is $3, and goes to the Visitors and Cultural Center.
Carol
PS - If I told you this was at 1:00, I goofed! Sorry! It's at NOON.

Hi, Everybody! So many of you have been asking what's happening next and in the upcoming year for Kenai Performers!THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST!!! If you'd like to have some input or be in on the planning of next season's shows, join us at the Playhouse THIS WEDNESDAY EVENING - July 23, at 6:00! We'll talk about who is interested in directing, producing and helping with what shows, and when they would like to do them! We have an idea of who's doing what when, and will be setting names, dates and titles to the season so we can get those out to all of you! Everyone is welcome to come! See you at the PLAYHOUSE Wednesday at 6:00 and LET'S TALK SHOWS!!!

Also, I have a list of those interested in taking IMPROV CLASSES from the WONDERFUL New York improv troupe, SIDECAR! They will be here offering SHOWS and Workshops between August 15 and 22! Hi, Everybody! Sidecar, the three-man improv team from New York (including my son, Alden,) will be BACK to entertain and teach improv again this summer! They will be here the week of August 15 through the 22 with workshops and shows if we have enough people sign up.

The workshops will be weeknights for two hours each, and we plan to offer three or four evenings of workshops according to interest. The sessions will be $20 each, and will be sequential, so you should plan, if possible, to attend the whole set. Class size will be small enough so everyone gets lots of attention. This is just a heads up for all of you interested in taking the workshops to make sure we have enough interest to get them up here, so the earlier I hear back from you the better. You won't be OBLIGATED at this point.

If you took the workshops last year,or if you've done improv before, there will be "advanced" classes. If you are just trying improv for the first time, there will be beginning classes offered. This year the classes will be focused on getting RELAXED, PROFICIENT and HAVING FUN exploring improvisational theatre, and will not lead to a performance while the guys are here, as their time is short. However, SIDECAR will be performing their HILARIOUS sets of improv just like those they do in New York and all over the country, so you won't want to miss their performances on Thursday and Friday! Just drop me a line and let me know if you would be interested in taking the workshops, and whether you consider yourself a beginner or an experienced improver! Also, please let me know your age range if you are under 15. THANKS! Hope I hear from you right away, so we can get the wheels rolling!

June 20, 2008

Hi, Everybody! Hope you're having a wonderful summer! (not HOT, just wonderful!)

Kenai Performers has two "Summer in the Playhouse" camp productions coming up that will make your summer SHINE!!! The younger camp will be performing a story we've written together - an adaptation from a book by Bruce Covelle, called "THE DRAGONSLAYERS." It is a musical, with original music by Stefanie Bouchard and the kids, Dances created by Kacia Dimick and Joe Spady, magical costumes created by Troy Castimore and the kids, really cool sets, built by family and volunteers, and amazing characters. It tells the story of a disgruntled witch and her sidekicks, a befuddled king and queen, who only want the best for their daughter, a feisty princess who wants to be a knight, a brave page with a secret, a wise old squire with a vision, a bunch of goofy knights, hyperbolic peasants, dainty maids in waiting, animal helpers, forest spirits, and, of course, a DRAGON! The show will play at the Playhouse THIS Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 20, 21, and 22 at 7:00 Friday and Saturday and 3:00 Sunday. Tickets are on sale at Charlotte's in Kenai and River City books. $10 for general admission, $8 for students and seniors.

The older camp will be performing their show the next weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday June 27, 28, and 29, 7:00 Fri. and Sat, and 3:00 Sunday. It is going to be FANTASTIC!!! We're putting it together from scratch - research and family histories. It's called "ROSIES: Women and World War II." It's a musical/dance extravaganza following the lives of a handful of the thousands of women who stepped up to the plate to take on new responsibilities and challenges during that stunning time in American history.

Every time we step into the stream of history it is a different stream, and this show has been a real eye-opener, tear-jerker, and foot-tapper to create! With music, dance, stories and costumes from the 1940s and before, this musical promises to find you where you live. Tickets for ROSIES will be on sale next week at Charlotte's in Kenai and River City Books in Soldotna. General admission $10, Students and Seniors $8.

Drop me a line if you have any questions! These shows are both promising to be REALLY COOL! OH! We'll be showing a little preview of each show at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center at 11 AM on the Wednesday before each performance. That is free! So come on over and get a peek.

Happy Stories!!
Carol

June 3, 2008

Hi, Everybody! THREE BIG EVENTS are coming up in June that you won't want to miss! THIS THURSDAY the Visitors and Cultural center is hosting something really exciting! Laura Forbes sent this info:

Fiddling Poet Returns to Kenai

Contact: Laura Forbes at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center, 283-1991, laura@visitkenai.com

In late June 2001, Ken Waldman, Alaska s Fiddling Poet, loaded his Nissan Sentra and left his home in Anchorage. Two self-produced CDs had received rave reviews in print and wide radio airplay on public and community stations nationwide. Also, his first book of poetry with Albuquerque s West End Press, a collection set in and around Nome, Alaska had gone into a second printing within a year, and another book was due out in early 2002. A long-time Alaska resident, he d begun touring outside the state in the late 90 s.

Now, Waldman has six books and six CDs, including a big double CD, the 2006 release All Originals, All Traditionals, which includes 27 original fiddle tunes with five-piece band, and another 27 traditional tunes, all but two with Waldman s trademark poetry and storytelling. In 2006, he also released the CD for children, Fiddling Poets on Parade. So, Waldman continues to tour, working a variety of venues, from concert series, to university reading series, to arts festivals, to folk clubs, to schools.

Thursday, June 5, Waldman will make his first local appearance in almost four years when he comes to the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center, 11471 Kenai Spur Highway. There, Waldman will do two events, a 1 p.m. show for children and a 7 p.m. evening show for a general audience. From Waldman, expect fun interactive music and stories for the children. For the evening show, expect new poems, old favorites, Alaska-set storytelling and some first-class, Appalachian-style old-time fiddling.

A twenty-two-year Alaska resident, Waldman s live performance has been described by Michael Miller, music columnist for The State in Columbia, South Carolina, as Picture William Carlos Williams behind a dogsled. Walt Whitman jamming with the Carter Family. According to Austin Chronicle writer, Ric Williams, Feels like a Ken Burns movie. . . .Always recommended.

Recently, Shepherd Express Weekly in Milwaukee termed Waldman, A one-man Prairie Home Companion. For more information on Waldman, visit, www.kenwaldman.com.

ALSO

Kenai Performers are cooking up two fantastic shows for later in June!!! Summer is HAPPENING in the Playhouse, and the morning camp is well into THE DRAGONSLAYERS, an exciting adventure the whole family will LOVE! The show will be at the Playhouse on June 20, 21 and 22! It's already hilarious! Make sure you put those dates on your calendar!

Afternoon camp just started yesterday, and WHAT A WONDERFUl BUNCH!!! I'll keep you posted! Their show play on June 27, 28 and 29! It promises to be AMAZING!! See you soon!
Carol

May 3, 2008

Hi, Everybody! Two more things before I take off:

Some of you have been asking about the Kenai Performers Annual Meeting! Be looking for it in late summer this year! We'll be putting out the season of shows, and talking about Getting A Permanent Home! I'll be telling you more about it when we get closer!

As most of you know, we don't own the Playhouse, but have been putting on shows there for several years. Isn't it GREAT to be able to have year-round theatre!! Summer in the Playhouse has become a staple, as well as shows like (most recently) Little Shop of Horrors, Sudden Theatre, and -- well, just one great experience after another!

SO! There has been a lot of discussion about a permanent home for Kenai Performers. Kenai Performers' board of directors is considering several locations including the current Playhouse location. The board is interested in your input. If you have any location or funding suggestions, please contact one of the board members:

Chris Cook chrisc@hotmail.com
Jenny Neyman JennyNeyman@hotmail.com
Marc Berezin mberezin@educdatasys.com
Margaret Gilman mbgilman@gci.net
Jamie Nelson glacier_jn@yahoo.com
Laura Forbes leadergreen@yahoo.com
Sally Cassano karamip2@hotmail.com
Ken Duff pappap3@hotmail.com

I am also on the board, of course, but I am going to be gone during May, so you can contact me AFTER May 26 by responding to this email. But please wait until then, or, even better, send your input to any or all the the board members listed above.

ALSO - Don't forget to come listen to STORIES at the Kenai Library May 4 at 1:00. It's FREE, it's FUN, it's FANTASTIC!

And don't forget the Spring Cleaning Garage Sale May 16, 17 and 18 at the Playhouse!
See ya there!
Carol

Hi, Everybody! Just an update on information I've sent out about camp. I will be out of town most of May, and cannot take the registrations or answer questions here at my email after this weekend. So if you have questions, or would like to apply to work at the camp, please contact me before Sunday. After that, you can go to our web site, www.kenaiperformers.org and contact Kenai Performers through the web site, and we'll get back with you.

If you want to register through the web site, you can currently find the registration form by clicking on "Carol's Corner". Unfortunately, I am a bit... not CONCRETE - more PAPYRUS-oriented when it comes to this kind of thing, so I can t give detailed directions on how to do it. If you need more info on how to register at our web site, please email the contact us and Chris will help you.

**(Webmaster Update: See the front page of the site for the link to more information and a printable form!)

I will leave PAPER forms at the Kenai Library, Soldotna Library, and River City Books that you can pick up and mail in. Also there will be a registration table at the Playhouse during the Garage Sale May 16, 17 and 18 where you can register as well as ask any questions in person!

Hope to see you at camp this year!!!

Carol

PS. Don t forget LIVE THEATRE STORIES at the KENAI LIBRARY this Sunday, May 4 at 1:00 We re telling our favorites! It s FREE; it s FUN; it s FANTASTIC!!

We're streamlining the basement, and are offering a lot of good stuff up for the sale! So if you want to keep your own stuff, or want to have it for Kenai Performers to use, come and get it and store it, or, if it's big, double check with Sharon and Chris that it's not for sale.

We will be accepting donated items for the garage sale. The dates for taking these items are May 5 through May 9, 5-7 p.m. Also Saturday, May 10 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. we will be moving items from the basement to upstairs to sell in Kenai Performers Garage Sale. Please stop by for a few hours to help. Need muscles, organizational abililties, and lots of smiles. Please give us a few hours of your time on that date.

Friday through Sunday, May 16, 17, 18, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. need help running the garage sale. Need not be there all the time or every day, but a few hours would help enormously.

SO DON'T FORGET!

Kenai Performers - GARAGE SALE at the Old Town Playhouse May 16-17-18.

We can use LOTS of help all day Saturday, May 10th, lugging stuff up from the basement and shoving stuff around upstairs. And, of course, a goodly crew will be needed to man the actual sale.

Please commit (and scoop-in any and everyone else you can think of). All proceeds go to the Kenai Performers building fund! Thank you very much.

You may contact Sharon at 776-8254 and Chris at 252-7929.

OH! NEED FIRE WOOD? We're hoping to have folks with woodstoves take a box or two of kindling home and use it up! We've got more short stuff than we know what to do with! So stop by the GARAGE SALE or any of the set up times and pick up a little fire wood in case we have any cool mornings still coming up.
